Seabury-Western Theological Seminary is located in Evanston, Illinois. Named for Samuel Seabury, It is one of the 11 Episcopal Seminaries in the United States. Most students are working toward a Master of Divinity as part of the ordination process; however, Seabury also offers the Master of Theological Studies, the Certificate of Advanced Theological Studies (or Anglican Dip), and the Doctor of Ministry degree, offered for working clergy through summer courses of Seabury Institute.
Among the strengths of Seabury's M. Div. program are formation in residential community, liturgical leadership, and a commitment to broad churchmanship.
Seabury-Western is the product of the 1933 merger of Seabury Divinity School of Minnesota and Western Theological Seminary of Chicago, and is now is an affiliate of Northwestern University.
