Salmon was the son of Nahshon, the husband of Rahab, and the father of Boaz. He was thus an ancestor of King David.
Salmon's father Nahshon was the leader of the Tribe of Judah starting with the Israelite census during the Exodus (Numbers 1:7, 2:3, 10:14; 1 Chronicles 2:10). It's possible that Salmon was born during the forty years that the Israelites wandered in the wilderness under the leadership of Moses.
