- The second ecumenical council, the First Council of Constantinople, approves the longer (and more familiar) version of the Nicene Creed, also known as the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed. This creed affirms the Christology of the First Council of Nicaea and clarifies the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. The council also declares the Patriarch of Constantinople the first among equals in the east, and second in honor to the Bishop of Rome.
