- The Vatican investigates a possible miracle associated with Pope John Paul II. A French nun, confined to her bed by Parkinson's Disease, is reported to have experienced a "complete and lasting cure after members of her community prayed for the intercession of Pope John Paul II." A miracle is required before the deceased pope can be canonized.
- The National Geographic Society translates the gnostic Gospel of Judas.
- January 2 - Kirk Cameron, Ray Comfort and Todd Friel begin hosting a daily live radio show version of The Way of the Master.
- February 26 - Afghani citizen Abdul Rahman is arrested for being a Christian and possessing a Bible.
- March - The Way of the Master ministry releases a "Basic Training Course" designed to work as a Sunday school or other small group curriculum.
- March 2 - An Italian parliamentary commission concludes that the Soviet Union was behind the 1981 assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II, in retaliation for his support of Solidarity. This confirms a 1981 CIA finding.

- March 23 - The Christianity Knowledge Base (CKB) opens at Wikicities (soon renamed Wikia).

- May 19 - Scheduled release date for the film version of The Da Vinci Code.
- July 18 - World Methodist Council voted unanimously to adopt the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, becoming the third church body to sign the document. The declaration had previously (October 31, 1999) been signed by the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church.
